November 4th, 2024. This day marks a new chapter in my life journey. This was the day where I jumped head first into the unknown and started my doctoral research journey at Grenoble Ecole de Management. Supported by a wonderful research faculty, and some of the most interesting people as classmates, I can’t wait to get started.
The first week was a deep dive into the what’s and how’s in conducting academic research. It was a bit like drinking water from a fire hose, but fortunately I didn’t spill a drop! We discussed topics like “What is a research thesis?”, Research design, Developing a research question, Literature reviews, Qualitative and Quantitative designs. We also discussed and debated the importance of AI in research. It was a very fruitful week to say the least.
On the train ride home, my head was spinning. Where do I start? How much time do I need to dedicate to this? What will I think of this process in three years time? Confirmation that I don’t know what I don’t know… yet! Conscious incompetence. It’s a step in the right direction.
One thing I do know is that my topic is very relevant and there is a clear gap in current research. To start, I will look at research focused on social issues addressed by companies. More will come as I dig in, but I am optimist this topic will highlight behavioural differences between business as usual and business with impact.
As my research progresses, I will be reaching out to those of you who have pledged your support. First to share what I have learned, and second to see if there is any relevance in your domain. Thank you once again for those who have offered to participate. If you are reading this and you would like to be added to the list, please contact me at robby@b-behaviours.com. Until then, you can find me somewhere with my nose buried in books!
